Exhibition Installation – Showdown

IMG_3794.JPGIt was the day of the exhibition and we seIMG_3798.JPGt up the giant book andIMG_3801.JPG pen at the top of the stairs, on a table so that it would be easier for people to write on, and we got 3 pedestals for the 3 little books and pencils. For the middle we hung up the clouds and spread the fairy
lights across the rails and we were ready to go.

image1.jpegWe began with everyone being at the bottom of the staircase, and split the group in two; half went up and half remained down. The first half that remained image2.jpegdown were asked to write their reality in one word in the small books using the small pencils. Everyone bent down and began writing their words, which went as planned, however the next image3.jpeggroup of people starting picking up the books and leaning against the wall so they didn’t have to bend down, which wasn’t supposed to happen as we intended for them to feel uncomfortable and crouched so that they could feel like giants in the tiny world. We could have came up with the idea of having the books taped down on the pedestal to create restriction of picking them up and being forced to bend down. However, in the giant world, the classmates were so image4.jpegamazed by the large pen and were trying to figure out how we made it work. However it took much longer than the tiny world because it took more time for image5.jpegeverybody to write a full out, as the large pen is a lot harder to control. Which was the entire point… Success!

Overall I was so happy with image6.jpegthe result of our exhibition because people did and felt what we had intended more or less and we had comments like “it was uncomfortable because it’s not something we’re used to.” and “I felt so big in this space because of the low ceiling under the stairs and the fact that my hand is way too big for the tiny pencil.”
My group was a pleasure to work with because I feel like we connected and got along so well with one another, and didn’t have any problems with communicating our ideas and opinions to each other. We all worked hard and put in the same amount of effort and work into our installation and we were all so happy with the end result.
